The South Montgomery County Fire Department is a rapidly growing all-career department 30 minutes north of Houston. The district covers approximately 53 square miles with a population of 85,000 plus. Over the last twelve years, the district has grown from one staffed station to six stations. We have exhausted our last several hiring lists and are still growing. There will be advancement opportunities for many more years to come.

In 2014, the District achieved an ISO Class 1 ranking District wide from the Insurance Services Office. We are one of 74 departments in Texas and one of 411 nationwide to receive this recognition

FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER

The South Montgomery County Fire Department / Montgomery County ESD #8, is seeking applications for full- time Firefighter positions, who will work a 24-hour shift on a 9-day rotation, averaging 50 hours per week with (13) Platoon Days (additional scheduled days off). This will be a tested position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age with no upper age limit.
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver’s license and be able to obtain a Class B license within 90 days of appointment to position. Out-of-State applicants must obtain Texas Driver’s License within 30 days by state law.
  • Applicant must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen and health physical prior to appointment..
  • Certified Firefighter/EMT

  • Possess, at minimum, a Basic Certification for Structural Fire Suppression from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection by hire date. Out-of-State applicants must be in the reciprocity process with TCFP prior to test date, must provide proof and status to the district at time of testing.
  • Possess, at a minimum, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TSDHS) by hire date. Out-of-State applicants must be in the reciprocity process with TDSHS prior to test date and must provide proof and status to the district at time of testing.

  • Certified EMT/Firefighter Trainee

  • Possess, at a minimum, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TSDHS) by hire date. Out-of-State applicants must be in the reciprocity process with TDSHS prior to test date and must provide proof and status to the district at time of testing.
  • Able to complete 16-week Fire Academy

  • Benefits:

  • Starting salary of $55,224 (depending on experience), based on a 9-day rotation with 13 Platoon Days annually (scheduled days off) to reduce the average workweek to 50 hours.
  • Available monthly certification incentives include $100.00 per month/Intermediate, $200.00 per month/Advanced and $300.00 per month/Master TCFP firefighters.
  • Longevity incentive of $5.00 per check for each year of service with MCESD8
  • Non-tobacco use incentive of $50.00 per month for non-tobacco users.
  • Health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance are provided for employee and available for family.
  • Paid Benefit sick, vacation and holiday time.
  • Retirement program through TCDRS based on a 2 ½ contribution rate(7% Employee / 17.5% Employer)

    Firefighter 1: Annual Salary: $55,224 Qualification Requirements: TCFP FF basic, TDSHS EMT-Basic. Successfully complete hiring process

    Firefighter 2: Annual Salary: $56,408 Qualification Requirements: Must have minimum of 12 months of verified experience verifiable on TCFP

    Firefighter 3: Annual Salary: $59,326 Qualification Requirements: Minimum of three (3) years of verifiable experience with TCFP. One (1) A-List course and eight (8) B- List courses not including ICS 100, 200, 700, 701a, 702a, 703a, 704, 800.

    Firefighter 4: Annual Salary: $62,262 Qualification Requirements: Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable experience with TCFP. Must have two (2) A-List courses and 20 B-List courses completed.
