According to the United States Fire Administration, more than 3,500 Americans die each year in fires and approximately 18,300 are injured. Children and the elderly make up the majority of these deaths and injuries. To combat these statistics and prevent tragedy before it happens, we work in the community to implement fire prevention and life safety education.

The South Montgomery County Fire Department (SMCFD) offers the opportunity for citizens to request fire trucks to visit their events, participate in parades, tour a fire station, request the mobile safety trailer, request SMCFD in a parade, give presentations and safety speeches, and more.

Public Training

Fire Warden

Fire Truck Visits

Fire trucks can attend your event, although they’ll remain in service during their visit and may need to leave to respond to emergencies. Units are limited to use at South County District events. Restrictions apply, and not all requests may be fulfilled.

Fire Station Tours

Firefighters are available to lead groups on station tours. Guests will be shown the latest advancements in fire equipment onboard the SMCFD apparatus and see the station facilities

Fire Safety Information

Through the Fire Prevention Division’s Public Education Program, thousands of children in the community receive presentations on how to avoid and best respond to dangerous situations. Schedule your fire and life safety presentation today for any age! Speakers’ schedules are limited and must be requested at least two weeks in advance.

Smoke Alarm Blitzes

Members of the Community Risk Reduction team target neighborhoods in the service area and go door-to-door helping residents check for working smoke alarms, develop a fire escape plan, and provide additional fire safety information, all free of charge.

Community Group Presentations

We welcome requests from community groups who would like South Montgomery County Fire Department to teach the basics on smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, preventing house fires, holiday fire safety, and other fire and life safety topics.

School Visits

During October and November, we offer a fire safety presentation to all elementary schools and childcare centers in our district. The rest of the year, we take requests from schools for fire truck visits; Career Day presentations; and other programming, including showing up to help with the morning or afternoon car rider line.

Sparky the Fire Dog

Sparky, often accompanied by his firefighter friends, frequently visits schools and participates in community events to spread fire safety messages.

Sparky is perfect for teaching fire and life safety to children because he communicates with them on their level. Audiences will be delighted when Sparky’s eyes look around, wink and blink; his emergency lights and siren are activated; and he drives his fire truck around the room, carrying on conversations and playing music — all by remote control. Sparky will make your public education and fire safety programs more fun, interactive, and effective.

Fire Warden Training

A fire warden training course covers a variety of areas, including legislation, the causes of fire, fire prevention, procedures in the event of a fire, extinguisher use, safety features, emergency procedures, role and responsibilities, fire assembly, and managing people under pressure. For companies looking to enhance their responsible person’s skillset and confidence with fire warden training, Fire Warden Training can assist with a dedicated program by educating wardens on best practices and helping employers fulfil their responsibilities to the rest of their workforce.

Making Requests

To request the fire department attend your event, please complete the Public Relations Event Request form and email it to info@mcesd8.org or call 281-363-3473.

When possible, make requests at least two weeks in advance (unless noted otherwise above), as requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Restrictions apply, and not all requests may be fulfilled. We’ll contact you if there’s a problem with your request or we’re unable to fulfill it.
